A Hi Fi battle with a difference has broken out with a Melbourne based group set to take on the struggling Chester Group Australian Hi Fi Show.

The Chester Group run Australian Hi Fi Show, has had limited success in Australia, with several leading vendors telling ChannelNews that they will no longer support the Chester Group run show due to poor attendance and locations that have failed to attract HI Fi enthusiasts.

The last show at Homebush was described as “a disaster”.

Also impacting the show has been a move to networked Hi Fi products that are primarily sold via mass retailers and not the specialist Channel where the Chester Group who are hooked up with Australian Hi Fi Magazine have been generating leads.

The CEO of a major HI Fi distribution Company said “The past Australian Hi Fi & AV shows have been a waste of time and money. There has been limited attendees and exhibitors have ended up talking among themselves. We have been to two of their events we will not be exhibiting at this year’s event”.

Earlier this week Melbourne based Hi Fi specialist,  Mark Rushton, announced the International Hi Fi Show up against the Chester Group run event.

It will run between July 1 and the 3rd of July, at the Pullman Mercure Hotel, located in Albert Park, Melbourne.

The Australian Hi-Fi & AV Show will also be held in Melbourne between October 21 and 23rd of October at the Intercontinental Hotel in Collins Street Melbourne.

The International Hi Fi Show will host more than 65 elite brands in over 50 exhibition spaces.

The show’s focus is on traditional stereo and will capitalize on the vinyl resurgence with dozens of turntables set to be exhibited.

Trends in digital audio haven’t been forgotten and show goers will enjoy a wide array of DAC’s, streaming audio devices and much more including headphones. Multi-room audio and sound bars will also be on working display.

Marc Rushton the Show Organizer said, “The International Hi Fi Show has been two years in the making, creating the perfect opportunity for Australian consumers to truly appreciate the enjoyment of music and Hi Fi,” he says.

Additional shows also being planned for Sydney and Auckland NZ.
