Throw out your kettle and your bottles of Mt Franklin, says Zip, makers of the HydroTap, because this product claims to replace both.
The Zip HydroTap dispenses filtered chilled or boiling water instantly – making your kettle obsolete and your kitchen bench less cluttered. The company also claims it will save you money, as it will remove the need to buy bottles of mineral water.

One of the smarter features, according to Zip, is its Australian standard conforming filtration system. This allows the HydroTap to filter out the usual dirt, rust, chlorine and other chemicals but it doesn’t filter out the fluoride. There is also optional sub micron filtration, which conforms to NSF Standards 42 and 53, allowing it to filter out asbestos fibres and cysts such as giardia and cryptosporidium, that may be present.
The filtration cartridge needs to be replaced every 6 – 12 months, depending on water quality and usage. A light will activate to let you know when it needs replacing. Another handy feature is that you don’t need to turn off the water supply when replacing the filtration cartridge.

A safety mechanism is included to protect kids from inadvertently pushing the boiling lever on. Zip said this lever requires “Two-finger adult operation.”
You can install the HydroTap next to your regular tap on your kitchen sink, or you can install it anywhere on your bench top by using the (optional) Tap Font. The Tap Font has its own drip tray and drains to waste, like a sink.

There is a choice of three models: the standard boiling and chilled filter tap ($2499), a boiling and ambient filtering tap ($1899) and a boiling water-only tap ($1250).
The HydroTap comes with a 12 month warranty on the system and a five year pro-rata warranty on the tank.
