HP has entered the 7″ slate market with an Android 4.1 device as opposed to a WebOS tablet; the device will be available in red, silver and black.Called the Slate 7, the 10.7mm thin device was revealed at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona overnight. HP claims that it will compete with the likes of the Google Nexus 7 and Amazon Kindle Fire as it has a recommended retail price of $169.
It is the first tablet to have Beats Audio integration audio processor.
Under the surface is a 1.6GHz dual-core Cortex-A9 processor, a low-resolution 1024 x 600 multi-touch screen, 1GB RAM and 8GB of built-in storage which can be augmented by a micro SD slot.
It has a 3-megapixel rear camera and a basic VGA front-facing camera.
HP promises 5-hours of movie and music playback.
