HTC is expected to announce the much anticipated Android Hero 2.1 update soon for Australia after the upgrade was delivered in Taiwan at the weekend.

The update will allow users in Australia who purchased their phone via a mass retailer to access Android 2.1 features except for the intensive live wallpapers as the Hero has a slower processor than most. Better overall performance, a newer web browser, advanced voice command services and other features are present, as are access to both the updated Android Market as well as updated services like Google Maps Navigation
At a recent HTC phone launch executives from HTC Australia apologised about the delay, which has seen HTC Hero users stuck with an ageing OS that can’t do any of the cool things its bigger phones like the HTC desire can do.
