HTC have teased a new ‘action camera’ it says is ‘something remarkable’, with a video showing underwater, sports and other usage with its launch set for the 8th of October in New York.
A new waterproof action camera from HTC to take on the ultra popular GoPro cameras is set to be unveiled early next month in a move that will see HTC expand its technological portfolio.
HTC is calling its event “Double Exposure” which naturally fuelled expectations the event is camera related.
Bloomberg says HTC will launch a tube-shaped, 16 megapixel camera with ultra-wide lens that will connect with Android and iOS devices over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
To hype up the event and confirm that it is indeed camera related, HTC has released teaser footage (embedded from YouTube below) taken with the camera, from underwater exploits to sports to videos filmed walking down the street to friends taking selfies.
HTC is also expected to launch a new smartphone optimised for selfies, but it’s not known whether HTC will also launch its anticipated Nexus 9-inch Android tablet in conjunction with Google, although it would be an excellent opportunity to do so.
HTC was also expected to launch an Android Wear smartwatch this year, but due to supposed problems in ensuring any such watch would be materially different to those of competitors, the company has reportedly delayed its smartwatch to 2015.
Channel News and Smart House will be attending the exclusive event and will be reporting live from New York on the developments.
