If you are thinking of buying a new tablet you may want to wait, HTC is close to entering the premium tablet market with what will be the first Android Silver tablet, the device is due in the last quarter of 2014.
According to sources the back of the device is similar to the highly popular HTC M8 smartphone.
HTC is set to partner with Google who is close to launching a new Android Silver platform shortly.
For those not in the know, Android Silver is Google’s new program that will replace the Nexus program.
Android Silver will include partnerships between Google and manufacturers like HTC, devices will run a near-stock version of Android with a very limited number of non-Google apps that consumers can uninstall if they desire. The devices will get speedy updates and have a user experience with little differences across devices.
Insiders at @evleaks claims that he HTC Volantis (an 8.9-inch tablet) could be one of the first Android Silver devices to hit the market.
ChannelNews understands that carriers in Australia and select retailers have already been briefed on the new “Android Silver OS Alpha 1.4”.
The picture also mentions the codename Flounder, which was previously thought to be the reference name for the Google Nexus 8.
The 8.9-inch HTC tablet will have a 2560 x 1600p QHD resolution display when it finally ships. The prototype currently has a 1680?1050p display.
Similar to the HTC One M8, the Volantis will come with a silver aluminium body, underneath will be a 64-bit Nvidia Tegra K1 processor and a whopping 5GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage as standard.
While the prototype has a 5-megapixel camera with 1080p full HD video recording the final version could come with an 8-megapixel camera.
Insiders claim that the device will ship from Q4 2014.
