HTC who are struggling to grow demand for their smartphones has scored a gig to make the next generation Nexus 8″ tablet, Asus is believed to have been dropped as the partner of choice by the search Company.
According to the DigiTimes Google has turned to HTC with the new device rumoured to be released in the third quarter, according to sources from the upstream supply chain.
Google partnered with Asustek for the first two generations of Nexus 7, but for the next-generation model, the Internet giant has dropped the Taiwanese notebook and tablet Company for HTC who is getting rave reviews for their new HTC One M8 smartphone.
DigiTimes claims that Asus has not been as aggressive over third-generation Nexus orders since Google has placed restrictions on the partnership.
With Google restrictions lifted Asus will be able to push its own-brand tablets and smartphones with several new models tipped to be launched in Australia this year.
Prior to appointing Asus as their partner for the first-generation Nexus 7, Google tried to cut a deal with HTC for a partnership, but was refused because HTC was busy pushing its One smartphone.
