One week after Google announced their acquisition of Motorola Mobility, HTC appears to be ramping up their marketing for a new range of Windows Phone OS devices with a major launch tipped for September 1st in London.
The new phones will run the latest Windows Phone OS, Mango. Among the new models which are set to be sold by both Telstra and Optus will be a model called Eternity, a Windows Phone with 3.7-inch display and a model called Omega, which is a 4.5-inch Mango phone. It is not known which carriers will get which models.
HTC has declined to comment. The move by HTC to ramp up marketing for Windows Phone OS based devices comes as a blow for Nokia who insiders claim wans banking on brands like HTC and Samsung concentrating on marketing their Android based devices.
During the past few days several developers who were writing apps for the Hewlett Packard WebOS platform have approached Microsoft in an effort to port their developments over to the Windows Phone platform.
Windows Phone director Brandon Watson extended an offer to give WebOS app developers a new home.
Three days later, Watson says he has been inundated with offers from published WebOS developers.
“I have over 500 emails in just the last 22 hours. Had to rethink the algorithm for responding to all,” he said in a tweet.
He later came back and said “First things first. Thank you so much for reaching out to the Windows Phone team to signal your interest in bringing your talents to our platform.
“To be honest, we didn’t expect this level of response, so we were caught a bit flatfooted. It took a few days (on the weekend) to pull all the mails together into one place to allow me to respond in a smart way and not retype every mail by hand.
“Consider this a first step in building a relationship with the Windows Phone team. We are psyched to have you aboard and to see what your imagination can do on the Windows Phone canvas.”
