Chinese telecom services operator, Huawei, has entered a partnership with the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) for research and the training of 2000 students in next generation telecom technology.Huawei is set to contribute $250,000 toward the construction of a lab to replicate their current telecommunications technology that has been implemented overseas and tested in Australia, including Long Term Evolution (LTE) mobile broadband.
The company has recently completed a trial of LTE networks with Telstra in a bid to market their product to Australian telecoms. While Huawei looks to further push their network infrastructure, a spokesperson told Smarthouse that they do not expect companies like Telstra to make the move for years as they get the most out of their current 3G networks.
Huawei joins the league of RMIT research partners including BHP Billiton, BMW, Telstra and Ford.
