Huawei the Chinese brand who was shunned by the Rudd Government has come of age in Australia with Telstra set to range one of their new Android smartphones which has better features than an iPhone and is significantly cheaper in price than a Samsung Galaxy S4.
Consumers
who pre order the new Ascend P2 will get a free 10″ Android WI FI only tablet
from the Chinese manufacturers whose new smartphone has a 1.5 GHz quad-core
processor and is the first smartphone to deliver LTE Cat-4 technology,
providing an ultrafast web experience.
Telstra
said that the new smartphone will be “0” upfront and $60 a month. The BYO price
is $508 which is $270 cheaper than an outright purchase of the Samsung Galaxy
S4 at Harvey Norman.

The new Ascend
P2 is stylish and in the limited time that we had to play with the device it
appeared to be extremely fast.
In the hand
the slim device which at only 8.4mm feels comfortable despite the fact that it
has an infinity edge 4.7-inch IPS HD in-cell touch display.
When
questioned as to how the brand would go up against the marketing might of
Samsung executives from the Company said that they are currently investing in a
major marketing campaign “one day Chinese brands will be cool” said Huawei
Marketing Director Mark Treadwell. “We know that we have a long way to go,
Huawei is a powerful and highly successful telecommunications brand what we
have to do is communicate that it is a global brand that has inherent strengths”.
“Huawei has always had the ambition of making
cutting-edge technology accessible to everyone, and the Ascend P2 is the
fastest smartphone we’ve ever made,” Treadwell said.
“The Ascend P2 is the perfect mix of style and
speed, and holds the crown of the Australia’s first smartphone using Cat 4
technology.”
The Huawei
Ascend P2 will be available from July 30 exclusively from Telstra with online
pre-orders available from today. In the
past Telstra has shunned the Chinese brand.

Volard, Telstra Director Device Management was not at today’s event however in a
press statement issued by Telstra he said “The addition of the Ascend P2 to the
Telstra product line up continues our commitment to providing more choice and
access to the latest mobile devices for our customers.”
The Huawei
Ascend P2 runs on the Android 4.1.2 operating system featuring Huawei’s own
Emotion UI (user interface). Powered by a 2420mAh battery and 1.5 GHz quad-core
processor, the Ascend P2 can download HD movies in minutes, and can load online
videos, web pages, songs or e-Books in seconds. Huawei’s proprietary ‘swift
sharing’ feature allows for fast uploads and downloads in a Wi-Fi environment.
A key
feature of the new device is the use of CAT4 technology that is currently being
rolled out in Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.
CAT4 is the
next step in 4G LTE device capability. Customers with CAT4 rated devices may
experience better speeds, in 4G coverage areas where the network is enabled
with 20MHz of contiguous spectrum said Huawei executives.
The Telstra Mobile Network offers 20MHz of
contiguous spectrum across 4G coverage areas in Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane.
In these areas, Customers with CAT4 rated devices may experience moderately
faster typical 4G speeds.
