Huawei Watch GT revealed alongside the Mate Pro 20 last year, has finally reached our shores, with a catch.
It has been long promised to be coming to Australia, and now its finally here, although consumers cannot directly purchase the smartwatch.
Instead, the Huawei Watch GT is being offered as a bonus for any Huawei Mate 20 Pro customers who purchase a Mate 20 Pro between 24 January 2019 and 28 February 2019 will be offered as a free gift via online redemption from participating retailers — JB Hi-Hi, Vodafone, and Optus are mentioned.
Unlike many smartwatches on the market now, Huawei has snubbed Wear OS for its own LiteOS.
LiteOS will offer many of the same features as WearOS, including customizable watch faces, notifications, and GPS integration.
The Huawei Watch GT features real-time heart-rate monitoring, a built-in running coach, sleep monitor, water-resistance of up to 50m, the ability to recognise four different swimming strokes and open-water GPS mode to track your ocean swim.
It has NFC built-in, but no mention of whether it will support contactless payment systems in operation in Australia.
The 11.8mm slim smartwatch promises two weeks battery life with heart rate monitoring and 90 mins exercise per week; 22 hours with constant exercise tracking, heart rate monitoring, and GPS; and up to 30-days without heart rate monitoring.
Huawei has no plans to sell the Huawei Watch GT as a stand-alone product in Australia, from the Huawei website or any retail partner. It may be purchased from online retailers who will post it locally
