LG has partnered with broadcasters and content providers to demonstrate HDR (high dynamic range)-enabled TV and broadcasting on its 4K OLED TVs at IFA 2015 in Berlin, scheduled to start September 4.Having announced that it will introduce four new OLED models at IFA, LG will be putting the HDR-OLEDs through their paces, stating the highlight will be a demonstration of BBC Research & Development’s HDR content.
LG stated that it will hold the “world’s first” demonstration of HDR Hybrid broadcast broadband TV 2.0 (HbbTV 2.0) content on its 4K OLEDs.
The BBC HDR content will be streamed by the European Broadcasting Union, which will employ an adaptive bitrate streaming technology, MPEG DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP), enabling HDR internet content streaming to be delivered from conventional HTTP web servers.
LG and its partners will additionally demonstrate the transmission of satellite HDR content, employing SES ASTRA’s satellite systems, while Broadcom’s set-top box, delivering HDR content via HDMI, will also be demonstrated.
LG has previously described OLED as the “ideal match” for HDR content, stating “only OLED panels can deliver the absolute black which makes the bright colours of HDR look even more impressive”.
“We’re using this opportunity at the largest consumer electronics event in Europe to promote awareness of HDR technology, which is ideally suited for OLED TVs,” Lee In-kyu, LG Home Entertainment Company senior vice president and head of the TV and monitor division, commented.
“As a founding member of the UHD Alliance, LG sees partnering with leading media companies as a priority to advance our position in the HDR market and to bring great content to our customers.”
