Look out Samsung: Ikea unleash the all-in-one SmartTV that boxes the lot. In one clever unit.
IKEA have just unveiled its answer to the Smart TV – the all-in-one HDTV, blue ray/DVD player, complete with full speaker sound system including sub woofers.
But one problem – what to place it on? Dubbed “UPPLEVA” the Swedish furniture giant has housed all this gear within a minimalist entertainment unit, boasting one remote for the lot.
Ikea reckons it has solved how to fit the LED TV and all the cumbersome devices that come with it, including hiding away pesky cables.
Specs wise, Ikea’s HDTV is a full HD LED Internet ready Smart TV a la the Samsung’s and LG’s, 400 Hz refresh rate, WiFI enabled and a bundle of ports including HDMI (to connect a PC or other device) iPod/Mp3.
The UPPLEVA also comes in different screen sizes and can be customised to suit your sitting room and device requirements.
And there’s even an extra storage option if you want to store additional equipment or boxes.
“This is not just a TV or a piece of furniture either” the Ikea exec declared in the YouTube video announcing the UPPLEVA, which is sure to have Smart TV makers like Samsung and LG worried.
“UPPLEVA brings beauty and functionality to the living room, solving the problem of cable clutter and miss-match between TV and furniture.”
UPPLEVA is hitting Stockholm, Milan, Paris, Gdansk and Berlin in June 2012 and during spring 2013 in even more countries. Ikea Australia were not contactable at the time of writing, but here’s hoping it comes our way.
