But its not some PR stunt with smiley faces and shiny white teeth – the “team” alongside Asus and Intel are creating a global competition, calling on entrants to submit their idea of “the incredible.”
The ASUS N Series notebooks with Intel Core i3 -i7 processors, launching on 29th September, are said to be a multimedia lovers dream, specialising in audio and video capabilities, with its N73SV model summoning their SonicMaster tool for optimum sound, Bang & Olufsen’s ICEpower and Dual HDD bays.
N series also come with NVIDIA graphics, 1GB RAM, Windows 7 Ultimate, DVD BLu Ray combo and 2MP camera.
The notebook push comes as PC sales have hit a wall due to the uprising of tablets among tech consumers.
Research from analyst Garner suggests computer shipments were sluggish in Q2 growing just 2.3% during Q2 to 85.2 million units and although Asus is doing well with Android Eee Pad tabs, it is still best known for its prowess in the notebook league.
“Given the hype around media tablets such as the iPad, retailers were very conservative in placing orders for PCs,” Mikako Kitagawa, a Gartner analyst, said.
“Instead, they wanted to secure space for media tablets. Some PC vendors had to lower their inventory through promotions, while others slimmed their product lines at retailers.”
Intel are also hoping their super fast, powerful Ultrabooks, the newest category in notebook market will account for 40% of sales by 2012, in a bid to reinvigorate the PC market.
To support the launch, Intel and ASUS have joined forces with a leading team of creative artists including Grammy Award-winning musician Jason Mraz, film director Andy Morahan and photographer Don McCullin, to create a global competition, calling on entrants from 16 countries to submit their ideas of “the incredible.”
“The inspiration for entries could take many forms: a sight, a sound, a moment or even a creation.
Participants are being asked to upload a description of what they find incredible along with any supporting imagery or multimedia content.
Mraz, whose has hits like ‘I’m Yours’ And “Lucky’ will be part of a panel of judges that will adjudicate entries.
The overall winner will have the chance to realise his or her interpretation of what “incredible” is and co-create a film with Mraz to be showcased at film festivals at Park City, Utah.
