Today at Intel’s CES 2014 press conference, the chip giant has promised “human-like senses” to Intel-based mobiles, tabs and computers, that can be controlled by simple hand gestures.
Its all thanks to Intel RealSense technology that comes as hardware and software including a 3D camera that sees like humans, and personal assistants that ‘get’ our natural speak (sorry Siri).
So instead of us having to learn computing language, Acer, Dell and HP PCs are learning to understand our senses, instead.

The computer giant unveiled next gen personal assistant that improve computer’s hearing – Dragon Assistant from Nuance, now available on Acer, Dell, HP and Lenovo 2 in 1’s, Ultrabook, notebook and hitting Asus, Toshiba soon.
“For the first time we are closing the gap [between man and machine] enough to deliver these experiences”, declared Mooly Eden, senior vice president, general manager of Intel Perceptual Computing Group.
“For decades, people have had to learn new languages, techniques and commands to get our devices to do what we want.”
“Our vision with Intel RealSense technology is to reverse that, and make our devices learn and understand us”, by equipping them with technologies that mimic human senses.
He announced collaborations with 3D Systems, Autodesk, DreamWorks, Metaio, Microsoft Skype and Lync Scholastic, Tencent.
Intel RealSense 3D camera is the world’s first integrated 3D depth and 2D camera module that helps devices “see” depth like humans, with a best-in-class depth sensor and a full 1080p color camera, that promises to change Skype calls and video conferencing, by blocking out backgrounds.
The 3D camera can also understand gesture recognition, facial features for understanding movement and emotions.
The Intel RealSense 3D camera will be integrated in Acer, Asus, Dell, Fujitsu, HP, Lenovo and NEC 2 in 1s, tablets, Ultrabooks, notebooks,from the second half of 2014.
RealSense use in education was also showcased on the CES stage was a Clifford game, with a multi-user functionality, where children can engage using arm and hand motions, talking and touching to advance the experience while learning core literacy skills, say the Intel gurus.
Intel’s next-generation Dragon Assistant from Nuance advances a PCs “hearing” sense, is now available on Acer, Dell, HP and Lenovo, Asus and Toshiba PCs.
For the first time, the new Dragon Assistant conversational personal assistant comes with selectable personalities, and allows for an ongoing dialogue.
So you can order your PC to play Drake on repeat on YouTube, get answers to all important questions like ‘how to lose weight asap’, and find content on websites – using natural language.
Dragon Assistant can also do calendar checks, get maps and directions, or book a dinner reservation. The new Dragon is also available offline.
Intel is also making 3D printing affordable. 3D Systems (3DS) CEO Avi Reichental, joined Eden on stage to detail the collaboration between the two companies to bring 3D scanning and printing to the mainstream.
As early as the second half of 2014, 3DS will make available its consumer Sense scanning, editing and 3D printing software applications on Intel-powered devices equipped with the RealSense 3D camera.
