The cult iPad now reigns supreme among US consumers accounting for 4 out of every 5 tablets bought – this whopping 60 million figure is even higher than expected.
Why? Apple are cooler, user friendly and “savvy,” analysts say.
“Apple completely dominates the North American tablet market, capturing 80 percent share of 7.5 million shipments during Q2 2011,” Strategy Analytics confirmed.
Previous estimates has placed Apple’s domination at around 73%.
Cupertino remains “a long way ahead” of Android rivals such as Motorola, Samsung, Asus and HTC who account for a paltry 20% of all tabs purchased.
The figures, however, which were for April to June period, before the release of Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, set to be launched here this week, Samsung revealed in Sydney court on Wednesday.
However, not if Apple gets it way.
Apple and Samsung are wrangled in a ugly cat fight over patents, with Apple looking to ban the new Galaxy Tab 10.1, just released in Europe and US and seen as a major threat to reign of iPad 2, with better specs larger screen, higher resolution (1280×800 V iPad 2’s 1024×768) and higher megapix on its dual camerasm, on Honeycomb 3.0.
Little wonder Apple are so keen to ban the sale of its Android enemy.

“A combination of cool branding, user-friendly hardware, entertaining services and savvy retail distribution has made Apple a formidable market leader, “Alex Spektor, Senior Analyst at Strategy Analytics declared.
But a king can be overthrown. “Others will find hard, but not impossible, to break” Cupertino’s domination, analysts believe.
Amazon, the newest tab entrant on the block is set to launch its low cost Android tablet today in New York, and could prove a major challenge to iPad, if it can get the formula right.
“Provided the pricing, screen size and hardware design are right, Amazon can be one of the main challengers to Apple’s dominance” Neil Mawston, Director at Strategy Analytics, added.
Like Apple, the Internet giant has a strong brand, compelling content and enormous market clout.
Its new tablet product represents “a good opportunity to place an Amazon shopping cart in the hands of American consumers, offering optimized access to purchasing digital content or physical goods from the Amazon online store, ” Mawson believes.
