Of the tablets sold in Australia the Apple iPad is the most popular, followed by Android models from Samsung, Motorola and Viewsonic. The research study conducted by IHS reveals that iPad owners are the most likely to recommend their tablets than any other.
They said that Apple users gave their tablets a typical 8.8 rating, making them very likely to suggest an iPad. Models from Samsung and Motorola were near equal.
Surprisingly the bottom ranked tablet products included Toshiba (6.7) who has spent the past six months in the USA claiming superiority over the iPad. The US Toshiba tablet also had bugs which at times put the device to sleep.
The lower-to-mid tier was dominated by traditional Windows PC makers Acer and Dell as well as the HP TouchPad.
Conditions of the market had created a “major barrier to entry,” IHS said, and was borne out by existing owners: iPads represented 79.2 percent of all current tablet ownership, and 61 percent were already sure they would stay with their existing tablet brand. More than half of those who already had a tablet planned to get another one within the next year.
Of everyone planning to buy, over 50 percent planned to get an iPad.
