HTC One XL “the super-thin and ultra-fast” 4G phone can be pre-ordered from today “exclusively to Telstra customers” and arrives in-store 5 June, it confirmed today.

The 4.7″ smartie on 4G Long Term Evolution network promises download speeds up to five times faster than 3G and is powered by a 1.5 GHz next gen dual core processor.

One XL is the first smartphone in the HTC’s One series with 4G powers and runs on Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.

The high end smartphone is also spec-d out to the max and touts a Super IPS LCD HD capacitive touchscreen (1280 x 720  res), protected by Corning Gorilla Glass, and boasts full 1080p HD video recording.

It also has 8 MP rear-facing camera (1.3MP front) with auto-focus, LED flash, geo-tagging, simultaneous HD video and image recording, as well as face and smile detection.

And its also slim with a light polycarbonate body – weighing just 129g.

Audio wise it has Beats by Dr. Dre Audio to deliver “studio-quality sounds” on music, YouTube or games – Telstra’s first phone to boast the feature.

And Telstra are flogging a set of Beats Solo High Performance On-Ear Headphones valued at $279 to the first 300 customers who pre-order XL online.

The telco, who first leaked a video of the new HTC online yesterday, are flogging the new device on a 2 year, $59 a month Freedom Connect Plan (+ $6 monthly handset repayment) with $550 worth of calls and MMS, unlimited texts to Australian numbers and 1.5GB of data.

Business users can get One XL for $3 amonth on $90 Business Mobile Advantage plan, which includes unlimited standard national SMS, unlimited MessageBank diversion and retrieval in OZ, and free national voice calls to eligible mobiles on the same account and 2GB of data, which can be shared with other eligible services on the same account.

The HTC HD superphone and the Samsung Galaxy S3 – set to be launched very soon – are said to go head to head in battle of the Androids this year, with both running ‘Droid’s new Ice Cream OS.

Andrew Volard, Director, Telstra Mobile, said HTC One XL would delight Australians.

“From its elegant polycarbonate body that’s less than 9 millimetres thick through to its 4.7-inch screen, the HTC One XL is exquisitely designed.

“Add to this the latest Android 4.0 operating software and some of the world’s fastest mobile internet speeds for music and video streaming on the go and it all adds up to one of the most advanced smartphones to launch this year,” Volard said.
