Fitness tracker makers Jawbone and Fitbit have entered a legal battle for the second time in two weeks. Jawbone’s parent company, AliphCom, sued Fitbit claiming that it infringed on Jawbone patents, and is seeking an injunction to stop Fitbit sales.
Jawbone accused Fitbit of infringing on a patent for “a wellness application using data from a data-capable band”. Jawbone said it has spent more than $100 million on research and development and has hundreds of patents.
In reply, Fitbit said it had “independently developed and delivered innovative product offerings.”
The company said it had more than 200 patents and patent applications, and plans to “vigorously defend itself against these allegations.”
