Internet scammers are targeting users of the Jim’s home and garden services empire, according to an ABC news report. Best known for its original Jim’s Mowing service, launched in the early 1980s, Jim’s has now become a major international franchising empire; apart from mowing, its services now include home insulation, building inspections, carpet cleaning – and computer services. It now has around 2900 franchises in four countries.
But in recent days some customers have been targeted with malicious software, based on what appears to be a Jim’s Building Inspections’ e-mail account and including a demand for payment with a link to an invoice.
The invoice downloads a potentially malicious file onto the victim’s computer. The file contains Javascript which is often linked to ransomware.
Group founder Jim Penman, pushing that hat back on his head, told the ABC that his IT department is investigating whether any of their systems had been compromised.
