US online store Amazon who recently launched their Kindle e book reader in Australia, has announced a major upgrade to the battery life of the device as well as native support for PDF documents.
The firmware upgrade that took six months to develop has resulted in the device which can only be purchased online getting an 85 percent boost in battery life. Instead of 4 days of reading users can now get 7 days of usage.
Amazon has also said that if the Wi Fi is turned off users will get up to two weeks battery life.
The new capability will be delivered through an automatic firmware update for all users of the latest-generation Kindle. Owners of “some earlier versions of Kindle” which Australian travellers were purchasing overseas will get the PDF upgrade but not the battery life upgrade.
The native PDF upgrade will allow users to transfer files via USB or e-mail them to their “@kindle.com” e-mail addresses.
This is useful as several organisations are now using PDF technology for manuals, books and support documentation.
