This is not just lip service. Scientists are looking at a way to kiss over the web using a pump like device which tracks the precise movements of a kiss.

And it’s not just lip movements alone. The students from Japan’s Kajimoto Laboratory at the University of Electro-Communications want to replicate all “communication within the mouth,” and have showcased a device that can exchange everything from the taste of the mouth, to complex tongue movements via a hardware receptacle.

“The elements of a kiss include the sense of taste, the manner of breathing, and the moistness of the tongue. If we can recreate all of those I think it will be a really powerful device,” the Japanese scientists say on YouTube video.

The device is inserted into the mouth and users turn its straw like end via their tongue, which rotates, thus transferring movements and other sensations via software to the receiver holding a similar tool.

This could prove a huge hit in the celeb world, the researchers from the School of Information Systems point out, if a popular entertainer could send out a kiss to adoring fans.

And some fire could also be put back into long distance relationships if online kissing kicks off, although going beyond first base may be an issue…
