Founder of the Australian studio behind L.A. Noire, Brendan McNamara says Team Bondi has started working on fully body motion capture to go hand-in-hand with its innovative MotionScan technology. It only takes a few minutes of playing LA Noire to notice the giant divide between the advanced facial detail and the sloppier design and bodily movements of characters, but the gap could be bridged with upcoming technology.
“We developed a lot of tools to make this kind of game … but we’ve also now started working on technology for fully body capture,” Brendan McNamara told GamerLive.TV.
While the MotionScan technology that delivers realistic facial animation in-game relies on actors being seated while capturing their movements and speech, the new technology will allow actors to perform just as they would on camera for TV.
The technology is set to be available in the next few years, and McNamara has told early fans of LA Noire that a sequel will take less than the original’s five years to crop up.
