It’s the tab that’s a phone. Confused?

Well don’t be. Its Asus’ latest Pad, which at the front is a regular Eee Pad Transformer but at the back lies a discreet phone dock, allowing an Asus smartphone to easily slide in (and out) becoming at one with the slate.
Last week, the notebook maker posted on its Facebook page a teaser of the smartpad declaring “break the rules: pad or phone?
PadFone specs aren’t a sure cert but it appears to boast a 10.1 inch display, HDMI and USB ports, from images leaked by SlashGear. The touchscreen device promises to be an “intuitive and interactive PC” giving “versatile mobility anywhere at home.” It also boasts a sleek aluminium type finish.
Also no word on if the Pad will allow other non Asus handsets but it is tipped to operate on Android Ice Cream Sandwich which meshes together Honeycomb for tabs and Smartphones Gingerbread OS, into one.
The hybrid device if it takes off could put the Taiwanese maker ahead of the pack, possibly even giving it the edge over, dare we say it, the iPad 2.
For Asus Eee Pad fans, all will be revealed later today at Computext in Taipei.
