Samsung appears to set to dump netbooks in favour of Ultrabooks, notebooks and a new range of Windows based tablets in 2012.An email that was sent to a Samsung dealer reveals that the Korean Company is set to drop netbooks for a new line up of PC products.
The email singles out 10.1-inch devices, saying that the range will be replaced by ‘Ultrabooks’, the PC equivalent to the MacBook Air. Several vendors excluding Samsung have launched Ultrabooks this year with an expanded low cost range tipped for 2012.
The email said “Following the introduction of our new strategy in Q1 2012, we stop the product range in 10.1″ (Netbook) in Q1 2012 for the benefit of Ultraportables products (11.6 and 12-inches) and ultrabooks to be launched in 2012.”
SmartHouse understands that several vendors including Acer, Toshiba and Lenovo will dump netbooks early in 2012.
