The price of LED TV display panels is set to fall in 2010 by more than 20% as new technology is launched and manufacturers increase their production say sources in Asia.
The price gap between LED- and CCFL-backlit large-size LCD panels will continue to narrow, with the difference in the 40-inch segment reducing to 29.8% in the first quarter of 2010 from 35.8% in the third quarter of 2009, according to the DigitTimes.
The price gap in the 46-inch segment will drop to 31% in the first quarter of 2010 from about 35% in the third quarter of 2009, the sources told the Taiwanese media Company. The LED-backlit TV market is expected to reach over 30 million units in 2010, the sources added.
In the monitor market, the price difference between LED and CCFL models in the 18.5-inch panel segment was about US$4 in the third quarter of 2009 and is expected to narrow to US$2 in the first quarter of 2010, while the gap in the 21.5-inch segment will drop to US$7 in the first quarter of 2010 from US$12 in the third quarter of 2009, the sources added.
