Lenovo Australia, who are currently contemplating a major move into thelocal PC consumer market are now having to contend with news that two of their Windows tablets are currently being pulled from retailer shelves in the US, after failing to sell.
Retailers such as JB Hi Fi are keen to see Lenovo mount a major push into the consumer market with their consumer range of PC products that are seen as some of the best available.
The Chinese Company who are strong in the Australian B2B market has cited a lack of demand, for their Windows based devices as the reason that they have ceased sales of sub-10-inch Windows-based tablets in the US.
The decision to pull the plug on the Windows 8 based devices is not because of a manufacturer’s defect or recall, but because the company is seeing little demand for the devices in the giant US market. Devices affected by the pull out are the company’s ThinkPad 8 which is currently being advertised in Australia.
Also being pulled from shelves is the smaller Miix 2 8″ tablet which is currently on sale at JB Hi Fi for $348.
Lenovo spokesman Raymond Gorman said “we’re seeing stronger interest in the larger screen sizes for Windows tablets, and are pleased with initial customer demand for the ThinkPad 10.”
“In other markets, the demand for ThinkPad 8 has been much stronger, so we are adjusting our ThinkPad 8 inventories to meet increasing demand in those markets. If market demand for ThinkPad 8 changes, we will re-evaluate our strategy,” said Gorman.
The Miix 2 with the eight-inch screen has already been pulled from most store shelves, with the 10.1-inch model still available.
