LG’s new G8S ThinQ smartphone is available from today, and the company will also give away one of its 43″ UHD Smart TVs to the first 1,000 customers who sign up to an eligible Telstra plan.
The deal is available from today while stocks last or until August 6.
The new LG G8S ThinQ and includes LG’s new “HandID” unlock the company previewed at Mobile World Congress earlier this year.
HandID uses the phone’s camera and infrared sensors to recognise “the shape, thickness and other individual characteristics of the veins in the palm of the users’ hand”.
The phone also features a rear fingerprint sensor and facial recognition for biometric authorisation.
A rear triple camera array features a 12MP main camera with a 13MP wide-angle and 12MP telephoto.
The G8S’ 8MP front-facing camera has improved depth detection capabilities, measuring the distance between the camera and the subject to create 256 levels of bokeh intensity, as well as stop the Face ID unlock being tricked by a photo of the user’s face.
It also enables LG’s “AirMotion” features, which allow users to take calls, screenshots, switch between applications or adjust the volume by pinching the air in front of the 6.2-inch 2248 x 1080 OLED screen.
Music lovers will be glad to hear LG continue its commitment to the 3.5mm jack, and the G8S is also capable of high-res audio up to 32-bit/192kHz.
The casing of the phone acts as a resonance chamber for its Boombox Speaker, which LG says provides “incredible bass for a smartphone without the need for external speakers”.
The G8S ThinQ uses a Snapdragon 855 processor and a 6GB/128GB memory configuration, but LG says storage is expandable up to 2TB with microSD, if you can find one that big.
The phone’s 3550mAh battery supports fast charging with the included charger, as well as wireless charging, though LG doesn’t include a wireless charger in the box.
The LG G8S ThinQ is available today through Telstra for $1224 plus the cost of your chosen plan.
