Ahead of the launch of its next-gen flagship LG G5 smartphone, LG has unveiled a new version of its mobile user interface in the form of LG UX 5.0.LG states that UX 5.0, based on Android’s latest Marshmallow operating system, “will offer advanced features and greater convenience not only for LG G5 users but owners of upcoming smartphone models as well”, and will allow for control of LG Friends companion devices.
“LG UX 5.0 is an enjoyable, enhanced and user-centric UX that supports easy connection for optimal control of LG Friends and delivers a more convenient and powerful experience by adding new functions that allow users to enjoy the G5 to its maximum potential,” LG states.
The LG Friends Manager app enables users to connect to and control LG Friends devices, detecting nearby devices for pairing, and downloading and installing all the required apps from the Google Play Store, generating a different display for each device.
UX 5.0 also delivers enhanced support for the G5’s camera, providing features including Zoom In & Out, switching between the 78-degree lens and the 135-degree wide-angle lens by pinching the screen, and Auto Shot, an enhanced version of Gesture Shot, for selfies, triggering the shutter as soon as the user’s face is recognised.
Meanwhile, LG states that it has refined its user interface, including several new smart features.
Among the new features, New Home has seen LG combine its Home Screen with the App Drawer, while users who prefer the traditional style can download the Home & App Drawer directly from the settings menu.
LG Health has been upgraded, providing a beginner as well as an advanced mode matched to the user’s profile, while, in addition to Knock Code, fingerprint recognition is now also built into UX 5.0.
File Manager, meanwhile, allows users to “navigate the G5 as easily as navigating your PC”, providing direct access to any folders or files, indicated by the directory path at top, with a new search filter to find documents, videos and images.
