EXCLUSIVE: LG Australia is aiming to enter the netbook market in Australia via the telecommunication carrier channel. The move comes only days after we exclusively revealed that Samsung was also looking to cut deals with carriers for their new range of netbook offerings.
Unlike Samsung who recently established a new IT division to market their new netbook’s and notebooks LG is using their existing telecommunication division to launch the new range which is expected to include the LG X120 Netbook which comes in a matte white finish similar to the new Samsung netbook models.
Like Samsung, LG has already had one stab at trying to sell notebooks in Australia but quit the market late in 2007 due to poor sales.
An LG Australia representative confirmed the move to SmartHouse and ChannelNews however no deal with a carrier as yet been approved in Australia they said.
In the United States recently LG received a setback when their netbook was dumped after a 3 month trial with AT&T who earlier this year launched a netbook trial which included Acer, Dell and LG netbooks.
The LG model was replaced by a netbook from Lenovo.
Currently Telstra is looking to launch netbooks later this year with a subsidised plan which will see consumers given the opportunity to sign up for a two-year netbook contract that will also include a wireless card for access to their Next G Network.
