LG who is set to benefit from the exit of Sony and Samsung from the PC market is set to launch a new G premium G Pro 2 smartphone in Australia, they move comes as LG continues to grow market share in the communication market.
The Korean Company who believe that they can become the #3 supplier of smartphones behind Samsung and Apple said overnight that their new offering improves performance over the current G Pro, LG is also increasing the display screen size from 5.5″ to 5.9″ inches they will also step up the CPU speed to quad-core 2.26GHz from quad-core 1.7GHz.
The new model also adds such features as 120 fps HD video recording, 4K Ultra HD recording and 3GB RAM, up from 2GB. Like before, it has a FullHD 1,920 by 1080 display.
The phone has been launched in Korea, but LG said it hasn’t determined when the device will be launched in Australia, it will be shown at this month’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona.
The phone’s CPU speed matches that of the current 5.2-inch flagship G2 launched last year and the recently launched 6-inch G Flex curved-screen phone. G Pro 2’s 3GB RAM, however, exceeds the 2GB of the G2 and G Flex.
Key G Pro 2 features include Android 4.4 KitKat OS, LTE and HSPA+, Bluetooth Smart Ready (4.0), Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, NFC, 1-watt audio output for clearer sound with better bass, and a removable 3,200mAh battery. It will come with choice of 16GB or 32GB embedded memory and MicroSD slot.
G Pro 2’s camera sensors and front and rear lenses have increased in size and sensitivity, the company said. With 120 fps FullHD video recording and slow-motion editing, the phone captures 120 fps video and enables editing in one-half slow motion, in one-fourth slow motion, and in the original frame rate. A Magic Focus feature lets users select the preferred depth of focus after taking a picture but before saving it. Users can also press an all-in-focus icon to make every object in the frame look sharpest. A natural flash feature is said to offer more balanced colour temperature and exposure for the more natural-looking pictures.
Also new is a dual browser, which divides the screen into two separate browser windows for surfing. A mini view shrinks the display to 3.4 inches to 4.7 inches, depending on the user’s choice, for use with one hand.
The new model also adds Knock Code, which lets users power on and unlock the phone by tapping the screen using one of 86,367 “knock” combinations. A knock pattern using from two to eight taps can be entered on any area of the screen, even if the display is off. Knock Code is an upgrade of the KnockOn feature that appeared first in the LG G2 last year, the G Pad 8.3 tablet and the G Flex. Their KnockOn feature lets users tap twice on the display to turn the device on and off. The feature comes in particularly handy with the G2 and G Flex smartphones because they lack side buttons and use back buttons to power the device on and off with one hand and adjust volume more easily during a conversation.
Presumably, the G Pro 2 also features back on/off and volume controls, but the company didn’t specifically say that.
The G Pro 2 is the first LG smartphone to combine a 13-megapixel camera with new OIS+ (Optical Image Stabilizer Plus) technology, which adds software-based anti-shake functionality to predecessor’s hardware-based image-stabilization technology.
Other upgraded features include a content lock to lock files, photos, videos and memos with a password.
The new phone also features a flash for taking selfies. Burst shot takes up to 20 continuous shots and automatically create a video from the images. Gallery collage lets users select photos from their gallery to create a collage to upload to social networks.
