After conducting risk assessments, LG have decided to voluntarily recall six different models of their fridges. The side-by-side fridges were sold between 2002 and 2006.
LG have determined that the voluntary recall is necessary, adopting a no risk attitude in the hopes of assuring consumers that their safety comes first.
The fault has been reduced to a micro-switch located inside the fridge’s ice maker. Over time, it has the potential to deteriorate causing the ice maker to malfunction.
LG says “in an extreme case there is a possible risk of fire.” So far, two such cases have been documented.
In their statement, the company asserts that “no risk is acceptable to consumers” and aims to resolve the issue with an in-house repair of the faulty fridges. They claim the repair will take roughly 20 minutes, and that there is no need to turn the fridges off.
