Two days out from the Australian launch of the iPad 2, it has been revealed that Apple is suffering backlight leaks with their new tablet.Apple’s support forums reveal that several people have returned their new iPad 2 devices which appear to have light bleeding into the display from the edges.
The problem occurs in different places and to different degrees and has been present since the product’s launch last month in the USA.
The light problem has also appeared in multiple replacement units.
Electronista, said that exacerbating the situation is the scarcity of replacements available. Apple’s online store is listing shipping times of four to five weeks for new orders, and while it may be possible to get a quicker replacement through a retail outlet, shops have been regularly selling out stock. Each chain also has its own separate warranty and exchange policies. Some posters have suggested simply returning defective iPads and waiting until availability and quality control have improved.
Apple is reportedly keeping a close watch on returns at the moment. The company is said to be monitoring for issues such as the light leaks, while also devoting extra effort to troubleshooting. No public acknowledgement of the situation has been made so far.
