With 230 franchises around the U.S.A., 1800-Got-Junk? is a rubbish removal service that recycles approximately 60 percent of all junk collected. The service is now available in Sydney with Australian resident, Gary Kemper, starting the first Australian franchise.
“I’m excited to get going and start making people’s lives a little easier in this area. This has been huge in North America. It sounds like a strange industry, but it’s awesome what a difference we can make to someone’s peace of mind,” said Kemper.
The company claims to remove “Anything that two people can lift, that is not environmentally hazardous.” Typical examples include old furniture, garden waste and renovation debris. The company promises friendly drivers who call ahead, arrive on schedule and remove all the rubbish from where it is located (rather than from the street). They also clean the site after removing the rubbish. The junk is then donated to charity and the remainder is taken to the dump. Customers are charged according to the volume of waste collected.
In the U.S.A., the company also claims to have collected an assortment of goodies, including 18 000 cans of expired sardines, valuable antique rifles, a diffused bomb from World War II and a full McDonalds McHappyland play set. What lies in the backyards and garages of Sydney-siders is next to be revealed!
