Pentax is delivering a souped up, special edition of its award-winning 645D DSLR camera to commemorate its title of ‘Camera of the Year’ at the 2011 Camera GP in Japan.The special edition 645D, dubbed the 645D Japan, is being shipped to customers on a made-to-order basis that ensures each camera is unique. The limited edition camera is available for order from July 20, but will only be available for order until September 20.

The cameras hold the same specs as the 2010 release, including the super high resolution image capture of almost 40 effective megapixels. It also houses a large CCD sensor and weather-resistant body that can operate in up to -10 degree Celcius temperatures.
On the unique side, each built-to-order unit is housed in a custom lacquered body and shipped in engraved, paulownia wood packages. Each unit is also shipped with its own individual serial number.

The glossy camera mount cap has been made especially for the 645D, while the LCD panel’s illumination has been changed from green-tint to white.
The camera ships with the latest firmware pre-installed, making the camera compatible with Pentax’s optional O-GPS1 GPS attachment.

There’s a two month window for keen photographers to pick up the cam through Australian distributor C.R. Kennedy or other stockists, but there’s a four month minimum wait on delivery of the custom jobs.
