Since 1994, 525.3 million Playstation hardware devices have been sold globally, so Sony Interactive Entertainment has decided to celebrate with a limited edition run of the “500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro”.
The package contains a PS4 Pro, a DualShock 4 controler, PlayStation Camera, vertical stand and a mono headset, all of which have a matching translucent blue casing and rose gold highlights.
The console will be available from the 24th of August and cost US$499 excluding taxes. No word yet on how Australian PlayStation fans can get their hands on one, but it may be tough as only 50,000 units will be produced for the limited run (or 0.0001 percent of all PlayStation consoles ever sold).
Half a billion in sales is a huge achievement and Sony says the special edition console is a thank you note to players. The PlayStation 4 itself had sold 81.2 million units up to July 22nd.
Sony Interactive Entertainment boss said “I would like to express my deepest gratitude for the continued support from our fans and business partners, who have all contributed to PlayStation’s rich history.
“Without our passionate community, we would not have been able to surpass this remarkable milestone of 500 million units.
“PlayStation 4 Pro 500 Million Limited Edition has been created to represent our appreciation to our loyal fans.
“We will continue to make PlayStation the best place to play for all, as does our continued commitment to expanding our library of great games and variety of network services.”
