24 hours after SmartHouse revealed that consumers were set to move to free TV and home entertainment applications designed for smartphones and tablets as opposed to expensive remotes like the Logitech Harmony range, Swiss Company Logitech has slashed the cost of their Harmony 300 universal remote to sub $40.

The move comes as vendors like Sony, Panasonic, Samsung and LG start to give away free, applications that allow consumers to control a multitude of home entertainment gear including gaming consoles, TV’s, Blu ray players and PVR’s using a Smartphone or tablet PC.
Logitech ANZ director George Saad who has avoided answering Smarthouse questions about the high cost of their Harmony remote range said in a press release “We launched the Harmony 300 into Australia earlier this year and it has been met with great demand; it’s already one of the bestselling products in the category,” said .
However he has refused to comment on how the company will go with their Harmony 900 remote which retails in Australia for $599. The same remote can be purchased from Amazon online for $292 which is $307 cheaper than what Logitech is selling the same remote for in Australia.
Saad said “We aim to make Logitech products available at price points that will allow everyone to enjoy the benefits of our technology, and with Christmas not far away we’re glad to have achieved this in time for the shopping season.”
