Logitech is getting into the security business with a new range of HD digital video security systems that are described as both durable and weatherproof. Images can be transferred direct to an iPhone and Android based phones.
The company has not said whether it will sell direct to the likes of Bunnings or appoint additional security distributors in Australia for the new range.

Among the new camera’s set to be introduced later this year is the Alert 750i Master System and the weatherproof and night-vision capable Alert 750e Outdoor Master System.
Each system includes one HD camera, software and the ability to view the feed from any browser on a Mac or PC, or on their smartphones. The company will offer a premium Web and Mobile Commander service that will let users watch video that is recorded and stored on the camera and manage settings from the web or their smartphones.
Currently Logitech sells their products through the likes of Harvey Norman, JB Hi Fi, Dick Smith and Officeworks.
The new cameras also link directly into the new Google TV offering which is due in Australia next year. This allows users to see outside of their property directly from a home TV.

According to Logitech the new security cameras will be easy to set up. They can also be connected to a home network using HomePlug AV networking which allows connectivity to be established over existing powerlines in a home.
The systems can record 960×720, 15FPS video and can be set to record manually or when motion is detected. Alerts can also be sent to users via e-mail when motion is detected on or inside their property.
Both sport a built-in microphone, but only the outdoor camera has night-vision. The software lets users pick 16 motion zones, focusing on some areas and ignoring others to reduce false recordings. The cameras include 2GB microSD cards for storing videos. This video can be automatically backed up to a network-connected PC.
The cameras have a 130-degree wide-angle lens. Free apps are available to watch the feeds for iPhone, BlackBerry and Android users.
The Alert 750i Master System and the Alert 750e Outdoor Master System will arrive this year in Australia. No pricing has been announced.
Add-on cameras will be available with the Alert 700i Add-On Camera and the Alert 700e Outdoor Add-On Camera. The Alert Web and Mobile Commander service will be charged as an additional service.
