Logitech has unveiled its newest flagship universal remote control in the Harmony range. The 1000i uses infrared to control devices such as VCRs, DVRs and TVs.

Set-up is via Logitech’s online wizard – where you enter the model number of the device which you wish to control, then the wizard will match the relevant codes and commands for the remote. The company claims it has the world’s largest audiovisual control database, consisting of over 175 000 devices from more than 5000 manufacturers.
However, the major point of differentiation with this remote, according to Logitech, is the user interface. By touching an icon such as Watch TV, Watch a Movie, Listen to Music, or Play Games, the remote reveals controls specific for the activity. This means buttons are fewer as well – the Harmony 1000i has only nine fixed buttons.
The new Harmony comes with built-in rechargeable batteries and a charging stand, which will provide approximately one week’s worth of power with a full charge, the company says.
