A man charged with extorting Samsung Electronics in Korea was arrested after microwaving his phone and demanding compensation.
The 29 year old Seoul resident falsely claimed that his two month old phone exploded whilst charging after he had intentionally destroyed the phone in his microwave oven.
The man staged a protest of sorts outside Samsung’s headquarters before Samsung paid him the equivalent of around $4,500.
Police arrested the man, accusing him of distorting a compensation claim and extortion, after the Seoul Central District Court approved his arrest warrant on Thursday.
