Rovio is working with Marvel studios to produce a movie based on the Angry Birds franchise. A Marvel executive opened up to Variety and said the film will explore the “emotional connection” gamers have towards the Angry Birds series.
Rovio’s Angry Birds is one of the few gaming titles to become part of pop culture, much like Nitendo’s Super Mario and Sega’s Sonic the hedgehog.
“The brand and the fans are at the heart of everything we do,” said Andrew Stalbow, a senior executive at Rovio, to London’s The Times.
“Everybody plays it. It’s the one game that my five-year-old son plays with his grandfather.
“We want to take the game and make it into a new digital media entertainment franchise.”
Rovio’s most recent instalment, Angry Birds: Space, has been downloaded over 50 million times.
