Whitegoods manufacturer Maytag has come up with a new system to reduce the amount of mildew and bacteria that often build-up in in washing machines, especially in the detergent dispenser.
The new technology, called Maytag Microban, is a treatment ‘painted’ on the detergent dispenser and water pump of certain Maytag front loading washing machines, and battles ‘washing machine rot’, according to the company.
“The warm and damp condition of the washing machine is the ideal environment for the growth of bacterial matter. Evidence of this growth will become obvious through dark spotted stains and strange odours in and around the machine,” said Maytag in a press release.
“Maytag have led the way in research and innovation and have formulated a solution to these unpleasant odours.”
Microban is now incorporated in front loading models with product codes MAF6512AAW, MAF7512AAW and MAF8512AAW.
