Microsoft is set to force a dashboard upgrade on users after they sent out a notice to Xbox 360 Live gamers. The update will roll out later today.
While Microsoft hasw said nothing offically insiders claim that the update will deliver an upgrade to Kinect and many of the other features promised earlier this year, such as a refined interface with support for Kinect navigation, better parental controls, Video Kinect chats and Zune Pass music support. A new layout, new fonts and new colors are part of the changes, Microsoft said.
The update isn’t small and should take about five to 10 minutes. Unlike some Dashboard upgrades, Microsoft is warning that the new firmware upgrade is mandatory and that users who don’t update won’t have access to Xbox Live. Offline modes will work regardless of the update.
The message sent out to owners says “You will notice a change to the layout of the Xbox LIVE Dashboard, a new color scheme, and new fonts being used.” Users have also been told that they will lose all Xbox Live functionality unless you comply.
