The company’s CEO, Steve Ballmer was the opening keynote, proud to boast of Windows 7 performance whilst also discussing some of Microsoft’s other products, including the Xbox, Bing, Windows 8 and Windows Phone 7.
Over the last twelve months, almost 400 million licenses for the Windows 7 platform have been sold. This figure was announced in contrast to an unnamed desktop OS who has sold 20 million licenses, a reference to the company’s archrival Apple.
Focussing predominantly on Windows 7, Ballmer briefly canvassed its Windows 8 successor, but didn’t reveal anything new. He did mention that more details will be announced at the upcoming BUILD conference.
Not always shining in the spot light, Ballmer did acknowledge the poor sales of Windows Phone 7 humourlessly saying “we’ve gone from very small to very small, but it’s been a hell of a year.”
