The service allows subscribers to download fragrance playlists, which are files containing the ‘recipe’ along with images and sounds. This data is transmitted over infrared to the cartridge, which contains different fragrance ingredients.

Trials for the service were conducted in 2005, and this pilot of the mobile service includes 20 males and females who will test the Mobile Fragrance Communications service in different situations.
