The date was given away by online retailer Amazon.com, which says blandly, “This item will be released on Mar. 19, 2008”.
Microsoft’s word has been to expect Vista SP1 through retail channels and via Windows Update in “mid-March”.
Even though Microsoft released Vista SP1 to manufacturing in early February, the company said it was holding back on making the service pack more broadly available because of driver-installation problems.
Meanwhile other reports say Microsoft will replace Vista with Windows 7 in 2010, most likely late in the year. It will sport new architecture that will hopefully see Windows perform much faster.
