Optus continues to build on its football offerings, securing the broadcast and digital rights to 15 exclusive matches and three simulcast matches of the pre-season International Champions Cup (ICC) tournament, with the telco forming an agreement with Channel Nine. The ICC tournament brings Europe’s best clubs to the US, China and Australia, with Optus to broadcast 15 matches from the tournament’s US/Europe leg, starting from July 23, live on Optus Sport.
The China leg of the tour will be broadcast on Optus Sport and Channel Nine’s broadcast and digital channels from July 22, with Nine retaining the rights to the three Australian matches, to be played in Melbourne in July.
It will be the first tournament to be shown on the new Optus Sport content platforms.
Optus, which has drawn criticism for its English Premier League offers, which are only available for Optus customers, earlier this week revealed a “free” Premier League offer for customers.
Customers who sign up to selected plans and subscribe to the Premier League by July 31 this year will get access to the upcoming Premier League season for free, with mobile plans starting from $30 per month (minimum cost $360 over 12 months).
From August 1, customers who sign up to eligible plans valued at less than $85 per month will pay $15 per month to subscribe.
“We know that football fans want the ability to see football matches live when they happen, not on long delay,” Ben White, Optus managing director, marketing and products, commented.
“Securing the live rights to the International Champions Cup further demonstrates Optus’ commitment to delivering exciting live football experiences to our customers.”
