Struggling US phone Company Motorola is set to bet the Companies future on a new Google Android phones which are set to be launched on September 10th in San Francisco. It is expected in Australia shortly afterwards.
During the past 12 months, Motorola who were one of the first to deliver a flip phone along with the highly popular RAZR phone has been working on a new smarphone offering based on the new Google Android OS.
According to Motorola chief executive Sanjay Jha, the company will launch two Android phones in September with Telstra tipped to launch the phones in Australia shortly afterwards. Late last year Andrew Vollard the former CEO of Motorola in Australia quit the company to take on a senior executive role with Telstra in their mobile phone division.
Motorola is one of several major phone manufacturers who have recently dumped Windows Mobile in favour of the Google Android platform.
During the past 12 months Motorola has seen their global market share fall to just 5.5 percent. in the USA the company still gets 59 percent of their sales out of the domestic US market.
So far there are only two Android phones on sale in Australia they include the G1 and MyTouch 3G, both from HTC. But more phones look to be coming later this year, including handsets from HTC, Samsung, and Motorola.
