Microsoft will pitch its cross-device capabilities to developers this week at its Build conference through technology dubbed Universal Windows Platform, or UWP.
The software is included in Windows 10 OS and Microsoft will push the 5000-plus developers at the event to use UWP to write programs for PCs, tablets, smartphones, game consoles and, eventually, Microsoft’s HoloLens augmented-reality headgear.
Microsoft says UWP allows developers to achieve a consistent look and feel for applications on any device that runs Windows 10.
Microsoft is banking on UWP attracting app developers back to PCs – and away from mobile technologies such as Apple’s iOS and Alphabet’s Android.
