Launching alongside its tiny new Portege notebook is the hefty new Toshiba Qosmio multimedia notebook which is the first to incorporate a HD DVD drive and burner, according to the company.
The new Qosmio G40 is as long and heavy as the Portege R500 is small and lightweight. Aimed at the notebook-at-home user, the G40 features a 17-inch widescreen LCD which, according Toshiba ISD General Manager, Mark Whittard, incorporates Toshiba’s LCD TV technology, including colour saturation, to make the notebook an LCD TV in its own right.

“By adding a writable HD DVD drive, Toshiba once again sets the bar for high definition experiences on the notebook computer. The Qosmio G40 is a portable home theatre ideal for watching films in stunning 1080p quality or unlocking interactive experiences,” Whittard said.
The notebook also features the latest Intel Centrino processor and the DirectX10 enabled NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT graphics card for gamers. Neither the G40 or R500 feature inbuilt 3G capabilities, but Whittard says there are plans to introduce models with 3G in future.
The new Qosmio and Portege models headline a new range of notebooks from Toshiba, including new Satellite and business-targeted models.
The Qosmio G40 comes with one year international parts and labour warranty, including complimentary courier pick-up and return service (Australia and New Zealand).
